Interstate 880 North Safety and Operational Improvements at 23rd and 29th Avenues Project Receives Award

Every year, Engineering News-Record (ENR)—a publication that provides construction news, analysis, commentary and data directed towards contractors, project owners, engineers, architects, government regulators and industry suppliers, globally—presents awards for Regional Best Project. This year, due to the high number of entries, over 100 applications, the State of California was divided into Northern and Southern California. And for Northern California, ENR’s judges awarded the Interstate 880 North Safety and Operational Improvements at 23rd and 29th Avenues project the 2020 Regional Best Highway/Bridge Project. Consideration of winning projects was given to the breadth of skills, creativity and expertise required to produce structures that broaden design and construction skills and exceed existing norms.

On Monday, October 5, this project is being celebrated virtually by ENR along with all of the 2020 Northern California Best Projects Award winners. Congratulations to Michael Baker International, the lead design firm/structural engineer, who submitted the project to ENR, and to the Alameda CTC’s Projects Team.

This month, judges will choose a winner for Project of the Year from the Best Project-level winners. Stay tuned!
