Thousands of Alameda County Students Prepare for Bike to School Day 2026

Bike to School Day mobilizes students countywide to bike to school in record numbers.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. – The Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC), through its Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) Program, is excited to announce that students from schools across Alameda County will participate in Bike to School Day on Thursday, May 14. The annual event invites students to choose active and sustainable ways to travel to school. In addition to bicycles, students are also encouraged to participate using scooters, assistive devices such as wheelchairs, and other forms of active transportation.

Bike to School Day is one of several large-scale county-wide SR2S events designed to maintain students’ interest and excitement in choosing active transportation modes throughout the school year. Held during National Bike Month in May, Bike to School Day also coincides with Bay Area Bike to Wherever Day 2026 (formerly Bike to Work Day) which occurs on the same date. Visit the Bay Area event webpage to learn more about local activities and to make a personal pledge to ride.
