I-580 Express Lanes
The I-580 Express Lanes are designated lanes in the Tri-Valley corridor - through Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore - that are toll-free for carpools, vanpools, motorcycles, buses and eligible clean-air vehicles as long as they carry a FasTrak Flex® toll tag set to 2 or 3+. Solo drivers can choose to pay a toll using a FasTrak®, or FasTrak Flex toll tag set to 1, to access the lanes for reliable travel times. Read a summary of the first year of operations: First Year in Review, February 2016 - February 2017.
Are they easy to use? Yes! The I-580 Express Lanes look and feel similar to carpool lanes. You can enter and exit almost anywhere along the corridor, providing easy access to and from local exits. Please note: to access I-680 from the westbound I-580 express lane, exit the express lane before Hacienda.
When do they operate and how much do they cost to use? The I-580 Express Lanes operate Monday - Friday 5 a.m. - 8 p.m. Outside of these hours, the lanes are open to all vehicles at no charge. Overhead signs tell you the current toll for solo drivers.
Toll prices vary based on congestion and the distance you travel in the Express Lanes.
Who needs a FasTrak toll tag? Everyone using the I-580 Express Lanes during operating hours (M-F 5am-8pm) must carry a valid toll tag mounted in the correct position. Carpoolers and those eligible to use carpool lanes (motorcycles, clean air vehicles with a white or green sticker) must have a FasTrak Flex toll tag to use the lanes toll-free. FasTrak Flex has a switch that allows drivers to designate whether they are driving solo, or are a carpool with 2 or 3+ occupancy. Order your FasTrak Flex toll tag online now. Solo drivers can continue to use their existing FasTrak toll tag on the I-580 Express Lanes, or use a Flex tag set to 1. Motorcycles need to set your FasTrak Flex toll tag to 3+ (and you use the lanes toll-free).
