Bicycle and Pedestrian

Bicycling and walking are essential components of the transportation system in Alameda County. Thirteen percent of all trips in the county are made by bike and on foot, and many more walking and biking trips are made to connect to transit.

Walking and bicycling are essential parts of vibrant, healthy communities and an integral part of a complete transportation system. Walkers and people on bikes are some of the more vulnerable users of the transportation system, and everyone walks (or uses a mobility device) at some point during their trips, so ensuring high-quality walking conditions supports all users of the transportation system. The Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) Bicycle and Pedestrian Program funds and delivers bicycling and walking projects and programs throughout the county.
