SR-84 Widening and SR-84/I-680 Interchange Improvements

The project proposes to widen and conform SR-84 to expressway standards between south of Ruby Hill Drive and the I-680 interchange in southern Alameda County. The project will also improve SR-84/I-680 interchange ramps and extend the existing southbound I-680 high-occupancy vehicle/express lane northward by approximately 2 miles. The purpose of the proposed project is to alleviate traffic congestion, improve operations and safety, and improve bicycle access on SR-84 and at the SR-84/I-680 interchange.

The project is funded by Measure B, Measure BB and local and regional fund sources. Upon completion, this project will be the final segment in a series of improvements to widen SR-84 to expressway standards from I-680 in Sunol to I-580 in Livermore. The public was invited to attend public meetings about the findings of the Draft EIR/EA  and the potential environmental effects of the proposed project in November 2017 in Livermore, Pleasanton and Sunol. Caltrans accepted comments on the Draft EIR/EA until December 18, 2017.

Caltrans, in cooperation with Alameda CTC, released the Final Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Assessment with Finding of No Significant Impact (EIR/FONSI) for the State Route 84 Expressway Widening and SR-84/Interstate 680 Interchange Improvements Project. Caltrans is the lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
