Mayor Green Wins Elected Official of the Year Award

May 23, 2012 at 4:13pm

The California Transportation Foundation has selected Union City Mayor and Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) Chair Mark Green as the Elected Official of the Year for 2011. For the past 19 years, Mayor Green has been a champion of numerous transportation projects and transportation funding. He has been a leader in garnering support for Alameda County’s Measure B, the half-cent sales tax approved by 81.5 percent of county voters in 2000 that specifically supports transportation projects and programs. He most recently has led an effort to develop a $7.7 billion transportation plan that will go before voters in 2012.

As Alameda CTC Chair, Mayor Green has combined two countywide transportation agencies to more efficiently deliver transportation investments to the public. This merger has resulted in over $3 million in savings to taxpayers through streamlined staff and consulting practices, as well as enhanced delivery. Read more in the press release.

Mayor Green will be honored at the 23rd Annual CTF Transportation Awards on May 23. The Awards Luncheon takes place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sacramento Grand Ballroom on 629 J Street in Sacramento.

The California Transportation Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded 24 years ago to support California’s transportation community. Its mission, “Remember ● Recognize ● Educate,” is accomplished with workers’ assistance.
