Many organizations work to encourage walking, create better places to walk and promote safety. Below is a list of just some of these groups working within Alameda County, across California and nationwide.

  • California WALKS – Assists in organizing and training local pedestrian advocacy groups in dealing with the pedestrian issues at the state level.
  • Active Living Research – Provides resources and tools to help make walking and bicycling part of a healthy community lifestyle.
  • Rails-to-Trails Conservancy – Helps to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connects corridors to build healthier places for healthier people.
  • America Walks – Fosters walkable communities by engaging, educating and connecting walking advocates.
  • California Council of the Blind – Helps make California inclusive of all people, especially persons who are blind or visually impaired.
  • TransForm – Works to create world-class public transportation and walkable communities in the Bay Area and beyond.
